Louis XVI. King Louis XVI was the king of France before the French revolution, and was thrown out by the revolutionaries. The constitution of 1791 took away all of his power, and he was executed in January 1793.

Marie Antoinette. Queen Marie Antoinette was married to King Louis XVI. She was executed by the revolutionaries in October 1793.

George Danton. Former friend of Robespierre and politician prior to the revolution. First president of the Committee of Public Safety. Attempted to stop the terror under Robespierre, but was arrested and executed by him in April 1794.

Maximilien de Robespierre. Politician in France before, during, and after the revolution. He took power and held it through terror, which he believed was the way to cleanse France of corruption and make a path to democracy. Eventually arrested, tried, and executed in July 1794.

Jean Paul Marat. Radical French revolutionary, he attacked the monarchy and instigated the September massacres of 1792. He also believed that to hold on to power, the revolutionaries needed to use extreme violence and terror. He had a newspaper that influenced the opinion of the people greatly. He was eventually murdered by Charlotte Corday in 1793.

Charlotte Corday. Assassinated Jean Paul Marat because she believed in a more moderate approach to the revolution, and killed Marat to try and calm the revolution. Arrested immediately after murdering Marat, was tried and executed in 1793.
